Evan skates on the pond in Bowness Park, on an absolutely gorgeous afternoon.
This almost never happens. But I took the time to nuke old emails that I didn’t need to keep, and dump stuff that is no longer relevant. An inbox cleansing is very cathartic. Merlin would approve. (but it probably won’t last very long…)

Evan earned a little extra money, and wanted to use it to buy his own microscope. He’s been preparing slides to see what stuff looks like, and sketching notes in his notebook. This morning, he rushed downstairs before anyone else had woken up, to fire up the microscope for a few minutes before getting ready for school. Enthusiasm for science. Awesome.
I’m changing roles on campus, switching from being an educational technology consultant and instructional designer in the Teaching & Learning Centre, to an IT Partner. I’ll be officially part of the IT department, and will be working closely with the TLC and additional units. We’ll be fleshing out the details in the coming days and weeks, but it’s going to be a fun process. For the first part of the process, I’ll still be in the same office at the TLC, so while things will be changing, they will also be rather familiar.

From what I understand, the role is largely about communications and planning – talking to people in faculties and departments, helping them to figure out what they need and want, and then working with folks in IT to figure out how to best support those needs.
In a way, this is what I’ve been doing, on a smaller scale, through the Teaching & Learning Centre for some time now. But, the IT role will hopefully provide the opportunity to have a broader impact, as opposed to in isolated projects.
The position is a hybrid, where I’ll be reporting to IT, but working in the TLC (and other units). Initially, I’ll still be doing the same TLC things (workshops, etc…) and then will transition over.
My parents have always thought I was in IT all these years anyway, so this should help reduce confusion a bit…

I headed downtown to hang out with a buddy cough@dougsymingtonahem for lunch. The diner we were going to hit was closed, so we went to a thai place. mmm…

the sun sets, directly in line with the trench carved on top of the sidewalk, through the most recent layers of snow.

looking up, into another round of winter storm warnings.

Evan made breakfast again this morning, frying up eggs for us using his own frying pan and spatula. He’s getting really good at making perfect fried eggs.
