follow the puck

2010 February 6

pretty easy to tell where the puck is, even though it’s not in the frame.

the Calgary Hitmen took on the Medicine Hat Tigers in WHL action – battling for first place overall. The Hitmen took the game, 2-0.

into the sunrise

2010 February 5

two of the regulars, who walk along the bowmont pathway every morning, enjoying a beautiful sunrise over the valley.

new growth

2010 February 4

ice crystals are the only things growing in this part of the year. we had a very heavy fog overnight, leaving behind these fresh crystalline structures growing downwind from most things. fences. leaves. everything sprouted alien white crystalline fungus tendrils.

frosty

2010 February 3

a foggy morning, leaving a nice layer of frost on everything.

stupid groundhog

2010 February 2

still pretty wintery around here. no sign of psychic rodents, either.

2010/02/02: It’s Groundhog Day in the U.S. Make a photo that illustrates whether it’s more like winter or spring where you live. #ds79

a trivial thing I learned today

I’m reading up on Likert scales, and came across this section on the Wikipedia page:

Rensis Likert, the developer of the scale, pronounced his name ‘lick-urt’ with a short “i” sound. It has been claimed that Likert’s name “is among the most mispronounced in [the] field.” Although many people use the long “i” variant (‘lie-kurt’), those who attempt to stay true to Dr. Likert’s pronunciation use the short “i” pronunciation (‘lick-urt’).

also, I did a whole bunch of reading before thinking to look at the Wikipedia page – I was hoping to find links to other original sources. relax.

for everything there is a season

2010 February 1

obviously winter is not golfing season. it’s bike season!

today’s ride was a little slow – took nearly an hour through fresh snow, much of it on sidewalks to avoid having to deal with traffic on extra-narrow streets.

2010/02/01: Time for another color theme: Orange! Keep your eyes peeled for anything orange today and make an interesting photo. #ds78
