Aside

I’m going to be hanging out less on Twitter. I’m not deleting my account or anything rash, but won’t be accessing it from my desktop or laptop. Only from the iPod, where the drain on the battery will keep the nonstop twitterreloading in check.

I got tired of the noise, and the urge to check in on the noise. It’s silly, and distracting.

I’m going to be posting Asides more often on my blog – posts that don’t get published in the main feed, because they may or may not be relevant to whatever this blog is about.

There is a separate “Asides” section of the blog, with its own RSS feed. Slow tweeting? Kind of like an antisocial Twitter, without the echo. Unless I type really loudly.

I enjoy your asides and, following your example, set them up on my blog as well. It’s nice to be liberated from the 140 character limit.

Although there is certainly a great deal of noise in twitter, I also find that it is a great place to be social. Blogs are great for creating indirect connections and conversations, but twitter is where I go when I want to contact someone directly.

I’ll be sure to subscribe to your asides. Sometimes the stuff that passes fleetingly through your mind are what I’m most interested in reading.

maybe I’m just being difficult, but I find about 90% of twitter is shout-outs and misunderstandings. The rest is links that could be shared via delicious.com, or stuff that should be in IM, email, or blog posts…

I hear you. I’m trying to cultivate it into primarily UX/IX stuff and learning tech. The problem is that some of the obligatory co-worker follows drive me nuts and simply add clutter and noise. I believe there’s a value nugget there, but it’s a lot of work.
