I had a WordPress.com blog a while back -- when I decided to move it to one of my own servers, I was pleased at how easy it was for me to move all my existing posts and comments to the new server. I'm going to use WordPress.com rather than Blogger for my summer students, primarily for this reason. Similarly, while I don't recall seeing a bulk download service with Flickr, it'd be easy enough to do through their API. Getting your data out of Facebook, on the other hand, is considered to be a <a href="http://scobleizer.com/2008/01/03/ive-been-kicked-off-of-facebook/">TOS violation</a>. Another useful question to ask is “How easy is it for me to get my data out of this service”?
