@dean you've got a deal. although I'd probably talk for the entire session even without the trade :-)

@david I know. It's reality. But it's so frustrating. These same profs were saying how they had to negotiate with the publisher of the text that they use (they didn't write it) in order to use some of the figures and diagrams in their course online. They got approval to use a handful of items, specified by the publisher, on the condition that only their students were able to access it online, AND that they could guarantee that 70% of students would buy new textbooks. How in hell can a prof guarantee that? That's the stupidest requirement I've ever heard. Would the prof have to make up any sales shortcoming? Are the textbooks so uncompelling that they need to pressure profs into becoming salespeople for the publishing company? If a publisher EVER tried that bullshit with me, I'd drop the textbook from use and recommend strongly that students avoid it.

D'Arcy-
Welcome to reality. All these prof's are still in the "It's all about me" mode- "How can I steal, and not be liable"-
of course if it was their text book and someone else was doing it- they'd be up in arms.
Comes back to the golden rule- do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
Of course, if they weren't so busy making new editions of their textbooks every other day to screw the students- we wouldn't be having these arguments as much.
What we need to do is WikiTextBooks- from k-PhD. It's the only way we'll really ever harness the collective power of all of us.
I just posted some Thomas Edison quotes yesterday on my site- and was actually amazed at some of them- http://esrati.com/?p=723
But check the link back to all of them: http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/t/thomas_a_edison.html
Copyright as we knew it is pretty much dead. It all comes down to man's willingness to reward others for good karma.
You are an optimist- but, I'm right there with you.

If you attend my session at Tlt, I'd love if you'd share 5-10 minutes on CC and the whole open web deal. No pressure but maybe I'll trade you for my 32G ipod.
