I'd taken a look at that post when it was first published. Sounds like a sane way to approach it - using separate tools that are good at what they do, rather than looking for The One True Tool. As a piece of this, we've been working with <a href="http://janrain.com">JanRain</a> on Single Sign On and distributed ID. When the dust settles, this could all look a lot like EduGlu. Informal and formal learning environments coexisting, and all accessible with one login, with content flowing seamlessly between these sites. And, it's all built with freely available Open Source software.
