I believe that the important thing about these artists making this statement is that they are asking for their own rights back.

I hope that this movement spreads.

Will the Canadian Music Creators be successful. Lets see how their principles would work out. They just want the fair use of their music. They want it to be purchased legally for the benefit of the Big Labels. Lets wait and watch how this copyrigt thing will turn out.

d - they're not saying to let people steal music - that's just wrong. They're saying that fair use should be protected, and DRM-crippled CDs should not be used because they violate fair use. It's a completely separate issue from music downloads (legal or otherwise) - it's about crippling legally purchased physical media to protect the interests of the Big Labels.

not sure what my take is on this one. i'm not entirely sure i even agree with those principles, because punishing people who steal---(what kind of a "fan" would do that? you wouldn't steal something you didn't covet i suppose, so maybe all thieves are fans in a sense...)---is the right thing to do. i haven't seen a glimmer of the correct evolution yet, and it leaves me very discouraged. most people don't want to steal.

we'll see if anyone notices some of the biggest names in Canadian music on this one, and perhaps the dialog can start on a new foot.
