Woohoo! My first foray into Flickr Top 100 Interestingness. One of my recent Bus Seat Back series jumped up to #58 on the hit parade. I’ve had some come close to the top 100, but this is the highest any have gone.

Update: It rose above #6 (I saw it at 6, but it was marked as “falling” so it had been higher) and now it’s on the way down again…

  1. I don’t really get how that “Interestingness” works. One of my photos got up to at least #10 for its day (that I noticed), but the number keeps changing and it’s back down again to #20-something. I guess it’s just another way to get us users fetishizing our stats, but it seems kind of arbitrary.

  2. From what I’ve gathered, it’s some sort of magic algorithm that is more about how a photo stands out from the rest of your photos, rather than everyone else’s. Say you post 100 photos, and they average 10 views, 0 faves, and 1 comment. You then post a photo that gets 1000 views, or 10 faves, or 100 comments (or some combinations thereof) - the interestingness says “hey! this photo is interesting (compared to what this person usually posts)” So it’s possible for someone to grab #1 interestingness with a photo that gets viewed much less that the “most viewed” photo of the day.

Regardless, it was just cool to see a photo bubble up that high. It’s up to 25 now. Not bad for a throwaway photo I took while riding the bus to kill time while playing with the macro setting :-)

  3. Well, you have increased its “interestingness” by posting the photo here ;-)
