Hello Darcy!

Did you ever think of using XML for portfolios and dossiers?

It is a flexible mark-up language that hopefully takes some of the hassle and headache out of HTML.

Also there is something by Common Ground which makes portfolios easier. I'll find the link for you.

http://www.cgpublisher.com/ui/about/about.html

It helps people break into the publishing industry and could be a resource to many of your staff and students.

And wouldn't this be great for a community of learning?

Thank you for listening.

Bronwyn, thanks for the links!

Common Ground sounds interesting. I couldn't find any sample output, though... And their technology page includes an ominous note:

<blockquote> The heart of CGML is its patent-pending ‘interlanguage mechanism’, by means of which each ‘common ground’ term and data entry consistent with the CGML dictionary definition will produce valid data across a broad range of standards.</blockquote>

LbyD also sounds cool, but if I understand correctly it's just an interactive Word template, used to generate .pdf files by the looks of the samples.

I'm hoping to make the portfolios more dynamic, and interactive. Not sure if that's possible in the projects you linked.

Hi Darcy

Did you review ELGG at all when you were coming up with the drupal-pahyderm mix? If you did, I'm interesting in the decision-making behind the choices you made.

Nick, I'm positive that ELGG would serve as a fantastic replacement for the stuff that I'm using Drupal for - but I'm already using Drupal on a few projects and wanted to minimize the number of different environments I have to manage...
