About the widget issue in Firefox for mac os x, you might want to try this (if you haven't already):

http://www.amake.us/software/firefoxy/

it's called firefoxy, it's a tiny app you drop firefox onto, and it applies better widgets. They are not the cocoa ones, but they are nice i think.

		<description>They should not destroy your firefox: the first time you drag the Fox over Firefoxy it installs the widgets, if you do it again they are unistalled.

And, they are better looking than the standard firefox widgets, but they are not Cocoa. It's yet another style, but in my opinion better looking.  It looks a bit "in the middle of the two".
