Calgary Blog

Ted Buracas just launched a Calgary blogging site: the Blog at Calgary. It looks like a great start, with links to local media, arts, music, entertainment, etc… I’ve already found a new Jamba Juice replacement called *atomic – downtown, just north of The Bay. Next time I’m downtown, I’ll have to check it out (although that may not be for awhile – I seem to be downtown about once per season or so…)

the Blog @ Calgary

Looking forward to watching/helping it evolve. Calgary isn’t quite as online hip as the ‘Couv, but it’s a great start! I’m subscribed to the feed from the Blog@Calgary.

Sounds like a plan, D’Arcy you want in, or are you going to wait it out?

“But there’s a part of me that’s worried that bloggers are just shut-in losers who have no life. Is that being paranoid?”

Perhaps a bit, I think we ought to prove them wrong and be the hip crowd, with goatee (check) drinking expresso (double check) :)

Well… I’m a parent of a 3-year-old, so I may qualify as a shut-in ;-) Hopefully, not the loser part, though. And I do like my espresso, often leaving a caffeine mustache on my goatee as well. I did play a fair bit of D&D back in my jr. high school days, though… I still have the DM guides and paraphernalia in my basement.

There are other special interest groups for straight techno stuff (java users groups, mac users groups, etc…) so not sure if that’s a niche that needs to be filled. I’d be up for a Calgary Bloggers Meetup, though.

Yeh, the tapioca orbs aren’t for everyone. I love ‘em, jjust like I soaked up the bubble tea in Taiwan.

And as for a tech mtg, combine that with a bloggers group, and you got a deal. I read somewhere that bloggers are the new D&D players, back in the day. I wasn’t nerdy enough back then, but I did watch.

But there’s a part of me that’s worried that bloggers are just shut-in losers who have no life. Is that being paranoid?

I have been thinking we really need to help Calgary develop the tech community in Calgary. Like have a monthly meeting where IT people can get together to just mingle and possibly present some little blurb? Something informal.

*atomic is pretty cool. I went in there in the summer soon after it opened and asked them for whatever they thought was good… they were hesitant, we finally settled on Green Apple… Not bad, I don’t really like the “pearls” though, but each to his own I guess. On Campus, there is bubble tea or ice that you can get from the Campus Cove which is similar, they will put “pearls” in it too…

  6. [...] Blog Action While not yet officially launched (who knows, real soon now ™), I’ve started posting Calgary events and arts scene info over at . Go and take a look, especially if you’re here in Cowtown. And if you feel like talking it up in your respective blogs, so much the better (you know, like this – thanks D’arcy!). [...]

I am collecting information on all the people in Canada that write blogs to build a network of mutual interest. If you wish to share your details please let me know your Name, Telephone number, e-mail address, your blog site and your blog title. This will be an amazing opportunity for you to be in touch with other people that write blogs on your area of interest.

Is this blog still alive? or has it been moved to somewhere else?

  9. dnorman says:

I believe the blog has been acquired by a local media company, and has since ceased publication…

  10. Ryan says:

Any news on when they’re going to bring back the blog? Or if they’re publishing somewhere else?

  11. dnorman says:

I believe that blog has changed hands, and was eventually killed.

  12. Scott Thomas says:

    Who would kill a blog?

  13. Justin says:

Who would kill a blog? Someone that does not keep it up. Hopefully this one will start up again.
