Yeah – I’ll do some more tests. I’m not planning on doing true “application sharing” – nobody else will be taking control – but the display sharing wasn’t too laggy (a couple of seconds, which is tolerable)

I have participated in Elluminate sessions many times D’Arcy, and for the most part, it works greats. I don’t like the lack of full duplex sound and I have found the application sharing to be poor. If you are going to use application sharing, you might want to do a bit more testing.

Good luck DJ Norman…. I’ve done a few Elluminate live sessions for the TCC Online Conferences, and have had great experience, no flaws, in running it live form my PowerBook… I did one at an early Pachyderm meeting, where I was standing out in the hallways talking nose to screen at my computer, connected via the Airport in our meeting room. Iw as all fine til some other meeting of engineer types came out whooping it up for lunch.

The whiteboard screens work well if you upload them; they ones shown as snatched PpowerPoint Screen grabs always look grainy. The live web tours work well once you get the hang of all thew controls.

Wow, D’Arcy, I wish I could take in your presentation, which would fit right in with the work for my thesis. Barring that, however, I have already added your podcast resource page to my del.icio.us links.

I’m hoping you’ll put some notes up on the blog about your session after its done. I’m really curious to know how widespread the podcasting meme has spread within the educational crowd.

We are having great success with Elluminate at the U of A via the Faculty of Ed. Generally we find things work smoothly with all elements (though oddly enough it seems that broadband users are the ones that get laggy first). Elluminate 6.5 is supposed to be much better and it supports the iSight cam on the Mac.

We are using Elluminate quite extensively at the University of Alaska– cross-platforms and cross-bandwidths. It has always performed quite well. No problems with app sharing on the Mac, including giving control of the app to remote participants. Just practice a bit with the way the screen refreshes because of the way windows dock in the Mac… the less unnecessary refreshing the better!
