Blackboard-Merlot Building Block

Filed under: Uncategorized. Tags:

At the user’s conference, they appear to have announced a new Building Block for Bb that lets you search Merlot from within the Bb interface, to easily add resources to courses.

That’s exactly what I’ve been hoping to build for CAREO/APOLLO, but haven’t had any time to address. They’ll be releasing the source for this building block, so that might get me at least partially there…

From the other side of the corporate LMS world, WebCT released a MERLOT PowerLink last summer. I’d be interested to see a comparison of the two…

Jeff, thanks for the pointer to the WebCT Merlot widget. I’d stopped tracking WebCT after the U of C migrated to Blackboard a year ago. Still, very cool to see these links coming out!

D’Arcy, drop me a line and we’ll hook you up. :-) Both WebCT and Bb announced ways to get MERLOT RSS feeds into Bb and WebCT last summer. The new Bulding Block is actually searching the MERLOT Database using the MERLOT search service web service. Easy to do. ttfn!

Martin, thanks! I’d love to play with the Bb building block, and perhaps coerce it to work with CAREO…
