Myst IV: Revelation
Just finished the demo of Myst IV: Revelation. Holy crap. It’s the rich environment of the original Myst, combined with interactivity and live 3D rendering from a high-end first-person-shooter. Wow. You start off on a platform over a lake, and the water is actually moving, with waves and ripples, toward a waterfall, where it accelerates and pours over the edge. And the moon is high over your head (and you can actually look up to see it) complete with atmospheric effects and awesome sound effects (and music by Peter Gabriel). It looks and sounds like the pre-rendered snapshot views of Myst, but it’s all dynamic and live. Amazing.
More info at the “unofficial website” since the “official website” refuses to load for me…
The demo is still a bit rough in places, but I can see this coming in very handy for decompressing during the big APOLLO/Pachyderm haul this fall…
The demo download from the official website kept coming down busted, so I ended up grabbing it via BitTorrent overnight (couldn’t do that from campus, though… damned IT filters…)
Anyway, the game should hit in September. It’s already on the wish list with the family…

Just fired up Myst III: Exile, and it looks quite cool. Nowhere near as smooth or realistic as Myst IV: Revelation, but then again it was done in 2001… Had to break down and install a MacOS9 system on my powerbook to get it installed, but UbiSoft provides an update that lets you run the game in MacOSX once it’s installed

Yeah. Picked up my copy of Myst IV last night - and it comes with Myst III on a single DVD.
Took a while to install, then I managed to piss off the little girl by letting her bugs out. Oops. Just figuring out how to turn on the power now (figured out that the control is basically a tower of babel puzzle). I’ll try to get that tonight

Just got the power on, and opened the floodgates. Man, that’s cool. Took the elevator down along the water, and am just across the rotating bridge… Time to go home now

Colleen, I must have taken the other book out of the first level, since I wound up in a crystal sky palace… No sign of monkeys or trees anywhere

I’m about to go to that crystal world for a while…..( I’m getting stumped at this ship wreck world) the clues are just to random here…and I don’t have a clue what they mean like animal footprints in a swamp (?) and an injured monkey (I gave him a fuit and he left…) and no walkthrough yet….(only if I would need it) One thing I like about this world is you get to learn about Serius (Can’t remember how to spell it) and how he slowly became crazy.
Going to your world Darcy

Hi, i just started playing myst: revelation. Apart from visual eye candy, i am really frustrated at the insanely difficult puzzles in the game. I will be really impressed if anyone is able to crack some of them without wasting hours.
I am really annoyed as of now.
